IT WAS AWESOME! Could clearly see a bright orange/red prominence/flare on bottom right with the naked eye (about 5:30 spot)

Amazing!

Pinhole projection for solar viewing (eclipse or otherwise) is safe if done correctly.

Here are a couple of videos on how to to that:

FWIW, someone else just posted this article link from NBC News, which also states:

"However, during the few minutes of totality, when the moon is fully blocking the sun, it is safe to look with the naked eye."

This - again - is not intended to be a recommendation by me to anyone. Just stating what I MYSELF will be doing since I AM in the path of 100% coverage (totality).

Not seeing this in the news, I assume for liability reasons. For those same reasons, I'm NOT making a recommendation to you here in this post. However, I will tell you what I'm doing during the eclipse (backed-up by Nasa).

Because I AM in the path of totality (not 99%, not 98%, but 100%), I know that once totality has truly started, I can look DIRECTLY at the eclipse, no glasses, and can continue to do so until the moment that totality ends. I WILL NOT MISS THIS CHANCE.

Day 9: In general I love stories that involve time or time-travel. This book is a collection of fictional dreams and musings by a certain patent office clerk about the nature of time. The stories, exquisite and sweet, will linger in your memory for a very long time.

We all know ctrl+c, ctrl+v, ctrl+z, but for example WIN+. brings up the emoji panel. WIN+tab brings up activity history and that's super handy.

Win+V brings up clipboard history (you need to enable that in settings). Again super useful.

Holding Cmd+Opt+P+R whilst booting up will reset the Parameter RAM on your Mac and solve all kinds of freaky issues. (Wait for it to do the start up chime twice before releasing the keys).

Again on a Mac Cmd+i is "get info" for a file and that is handy too.

Today's heaping helping of .

Here is This Winter Machine with "Broken". Matches my mood today.

@codeWhisperer The importance of an uncompromisable kill switch cannot be overstated.

Day 8: This book is a -meh- OK read, but I'm including it here just for the entertainment value it's brought through the years. I leave it on the guest bathroom counter whenever there are people over for dinner.

When I was just a small boy, I stumbled on an odd little show playing on PBS, and was instantly hooked. Even way back then, the show felt ancient, with its low-res, black and white video bloom, but it completely captivated me. It still does, to this day.
It's definitely not for everyone, and some simply won't "get it" but I'd like to imagine that someone out there feels the same way about this guy as I do.

(and thanks to @realJanet, whose Scatman thumbnail reminded me)

BTW... if you ever decide to give this book a try, be sure to get a print version, not Kindle or similar. Otherwise you'll miss out on some of the whimsy. <opinion>

Day 7: Much like Richard Powers, any book by Nicholson Baker is one I will immediately purchase, preferably in hard cover. 🙂

Day 6: Including here because this is the book I used to teach myself to read.
