Inside Topridge hangs a photorealistic painting of one of Thomas' visits to the 105-acre property in remote upstate NY.

The painting shows Thomas enjoying a cigar alongside Crow and chatting with other conservative power brokers like Leonard Leo:

The Orion Nebula, also referred to as M42 (Messier 42). Imaged from my backyard on 1/13/2023 and reprocessed.

Since I'm apparently in a ranting mood today, I'll also say that I find articles with titles like "35 Science Fiction Novels You've Never Heard Of" to be grating, and not simply because of the grammar involved. It's that pernicious presumption. Ooh, maybe that's a better term.

Today's curiosity question:
TFG's fourth-grade level logorrhea has made popular a certain class of phrase often called 'sales talk." It's a pattern I find highly offensive, and one which is now being mirrored by most Republican talking heads.

Several times a day, I hear claims that start with "Everyone is saying that..." or "As you are no doubt aware..." or "As we all know..."

Is there a psychological term for this pattern? I've looked and cannot find anything. Perhaps presumptuous projection?

'Major moment in MS research' as new Octopus trial starts bbc.co.uk/news/health-65135637

My friend Gregg is taking part in the trial. I really hope it helps him, possibly one day can help me and definitely can help everyone with MS.

Guess I'm in a goofy song mood today. Probably has something to do with feeling nervously, cautiously happy, I'm sure.

OK, so... I watched episode 2 of "The Last of Us" last night.

"The Sneetches got really quite smart on that day,
The day they decided that Sneetches are Sneetches
And no kind of Sneetch is the best on the beaches.
That day, all the Sneetches forgot about stars
And whether they had one, or not, upon thars."
