@NorthernInvader I am also not proselytizing, just explaining what has helped me. If it helps someone else who - like me - was raised in a religious home but who now has their own personal spiritual views - great. If not, feel free to ignore. 🙂

@NorthernInvader As someone who was raised in a religious home (Christianity), it causes very deep pain for me to see family members who have swallowed the lies of this man and his movement.

The only thing that provides any sort of understanding (for me) from a 'religious' point of view is 2 Thessalonians 2:1–12.

Does the "Man of Lawlessness" sound like anyone we know?

Even if you are not a religious person, reading those 12 verses might sound very familiar to you at this point in history.

@tgraph52 After I finished it, I read up a bit on his life. Yet another troubled yet amazingly talented individual.

I've seen the movie "The Man Who Fell to Earth" with Bowie, but after reading "Mockingbird" I've placed TMWFTE in my upcoming purchases list. Looking forward to it.

@GhostsOfWar50 Yep. Shame about that chemtrail in the lower right quadrant.

(kidding - it is a beautiful sky)

@Victor I'd say the chances are hovering around 1000%

@john_b @rych I really dig their stuff. For me, goes well with the the contemplative, deep songs of another artist who prefers to remain anonymous, Sermon.

@tgraph52 Yep, but for some reason I had never heard of "Mockingbird" despite reading tons of science fiction since I was a kid.

Update: I was listening to Sleep Token wrong.

Having now listened more intently (particularly to their "Take Me Back To Eden" release, on loop for the past day or so), I recognize that they don't fit in any neat genre box. Their influences are all over the place, and they weave together a rich tapesty of styles. I'm here for it, and I'm so glad that I gave their stuff a more focused listen. I really was missing out!

(Thanks @rych for the guidance and nudge!)

For this past month's book club book, I selected "Mockingbird" by Walter Tevis.

Now that we (the club) have all read it, I can say that none of us could figure out why this book is not more well-known.

Even more astonishing is that it was written in 1980.

Recommended.

@preclude Well, let's see, they own the building, so maybe build a glass enclosure around him (with no doors) and put a placard just outside it that says something like "Homo Prevaricatus"

@thewebrecluse ❤️ ❤️
Guess I'll be firing up HBO as my next month-at-a-time subscription.

THANKS AGAIN

Now *this* is a song that makes me pick up the sticks, and slap a snare til I can't hear the neighbors leafblower

🤣
Like most tech startups, I'd be willing to bet we'll see that merch before the official department/position is actually real.
