I've witnessed a phenomenon many times in my life, where people look at another country and call out something utopian or dystopian about it, and totally miss that whatever they're noticing is also true about their own country.
I say country, but this happens in nearly any in-group/out-group dynamic.
It's far beyond "greener grass" wistfulness. It's a heightened awareness of the other -- from the posture of the presumptive moral arbiter -- accompanied by a diminished awareness of the self.
I expect these F-16 birds will be flying away soon from my hometown to Ukraine. I hope for pilot safely with every flight that follows.

The US secretly delivered long-range missiles to Ukraine earlier this month that the Biden administration had previously refused to send. https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/24/politics/us-secretly-sent-long-range-missiles-to-ukraine/index.html
I try to keep an open mind rather than assuming the absolute worst but these guys are making it reeeeeeeally difficult. #Politics
It’s hard to believe that more than 50 years have elapsed since my hiking and backpacking treks through the White Mountains of New Hampshire in spring, summer, fall, and - on snowshoes - winter. Now, my ancient spine and I wander the topography-free coastal plain terrain of North Carolina with my senior dogs, doing our collective best to fend off the ravages of old age and gravity.
@cassandra17lina Mark Burnett deserves a spot there.
It is amazing to learn of all the business failures, yet he holds perception as some business expert because of how he was portrayed on that damned show.
It draws attention to how fhe affluent are above failure, protected by the system that permits them to remain rich no matter how big the failures.

Same! Last husband wanted me to "act normal" and hide my creative interests. The behavior was insidious. I didn't realize how bad the suppression was until I got out and my creating *exploded*.
With my current husband, when I bring up an idea of what I want to make, he's enthusiastic, and he will even help if I need/want help. No restrictions beyond what I or my physical condition places on me.
Since we’re already creating additional circles of Hell, let’s build one - a very large one - for everyone who has enabled Mango Mussolini. Everyone who hid his behavior, paid off his detractors, turned his vengeance on his accusers, made excuses for him, or otherwise normalized his crimes. Everyone in the media who curated his image to convince the public of his charm and business acumen while covering up his toxic relationships, breathtaking incompetence, and spitefulness.
Beginning to see why Trump never pays his attorneys. They’re all throwing aside every instinct to carry out his insane defense schemes and when they fail, he leaves them broke and ruined.
Current mood as the weight of the world seems to increase as my physical body starts to show its age. Trying to close the gap with sheer force of will doesn’t feel like a sustainable plan. Fortunately I will be seeing my awesome doctor this morning to help me sort out what’s real and what’s the product of my overactive imagination.
Also, just sit with that irony...we have made this country such a hostile and burdensome place to raise a child that people would rather forego the chance of making one *forever* than preserve the option to do so *someday.*
Some of these folks would get sterilizations anyway, but some wouldn't if having a child young or unexpectedly didn't doom you both for life.

Let's talk about the US turning up the pressure....

One of my mother's cousins had it as a child, and it affected him his entire life. Across the street from us was a lady in an iron lung, and a block down was a young girl in crutches.
We also had a schoolmate die of measles. Anti-Vax people are evil.
