One infuriating observation on my way home from voting: I live in a tourist town where much of the labor force works in restaurants. There’s a huge billboard with Trump grinning and giving the “thumbs up” simply saying “No Taxes On Tips!” Anybody believing that he could or would implement such a change (which wouldn’t change state tax law) is an idiot. However, there’s a great willingness to embrace the unbelievable rather examine Trump’s track record of lies and broken promises. #Politics
@cassandra17lina He's only pushing no tax on tips to get votes. He also wants to make it legal for business owners to keep the tips of their workers.
Trump really is a POS.
@cassandra17lina
I wish I could find something more recent, but part of the 2025 plan is to allow employers to pocket the tips. So, yeah, no taxes on tips but you don't get to keep them. Also there is something about reclassifying tips so that are not tips but part of your income.
Anyway, here is an article from 2017. There's a lot of details and I didn't read every word, but I think it explains some stuff.
@danielbsmith @cassandra17lina Exactly, and one more way of putting tax-exempt money into his and other hospitality business owners' pockets.
@cassandra17lina It's a stupid gimmick to trick people who don't think it through.
How about lower tax for all low income in general rather than a stupid gimmick just for s we servers?
Yeah, I also think it turns into another way to cut taxes for C-suite officers. Redefine earnings to make perqs "tips" and most compensation as "overtime. "
