It’s day one of the two day process of making my grandmother’s recipe for gingerbread cookies for my 99-year-old mom. She’s approaching her end of life with very few joys left due to her diminished hearing, vision, and cognitive abilities. Her sense of taste and smell are still intact and she enjoys having a cookie or two or three a day, so it’s the least I can do since I live so far away.

@cassandra17lina That's such a beautiful thing - my mother is going on 101 (this September), and I send her homemade chunky applesauce. The small kindnesses are all they can understand now, moment to moment.
This is what the gingerbread cookies will look like once the dough rests overnight and the baking and cooling and decorating are completed tomorrow. #CoSoCooks
