World Central Kitchen is the main focus of my charitable giving. They should not risk loss of life for feeding starving, terrified people in war zones. If you support their efforts, you can donate at www.wck.org or volunteer to help other organizations locally where your efforts help those in need.

@cassandra17lina: Alas, the big part of what makes WCK the humanitarians' humanitarians is that they *do* risk loss of life, on purpose, to feed people themselves at great risk of loss of life. They're like firemen. When others run away from the burning house, they run into it.

War is ugly, noisy, awful, and foggier than SF Bay. Alas, the idea of a clean, nice, and tidy war is what fuels the same sadness and outrage as the idea/expectation of perfect safety in planes, in cities, and at home.

@thedisasterautist Agree, but clearly marked vehicles and operations of humanitarian organizations should be off limits as targets. So should the people on the receiving end of food, medicine, and other aid.

@cassandra17lina: Not all bombs land exactly where they are aimed, not even the super-sophisticated ones. Also, as the UN learned several times in Gaza since the '90s, Hamas, the PLO, or whomever fire from the positions where the NGOs and others are precisely so they will get bombed/shot specifically for Israel to be accused of targeting the NGOs.

And yes, sometimes people fuck up and go for the wrong targets. Fog of war, sadly, but there's no clean war, no matter how much one wants it.

@cassandra17lina: And most of us in civilization wish LF war could be clean.

@cassandra17lina Its hard for me to believe that this was an “oops” event.

@allin I agree. Especially since Netanyahu couldn’t wipe the smirk off his face as he promised to look into the matter.

@allin @cassandra17lina

What would be the goal of purposefully shooting up a bunch of people cooking food?

@mcfate @cassandra17lina I can only guess. One thought I had was that it would serve as a warning to anyone bringing food to the Palestinians.

@allin @cassandra17lina

That'd be an awfully expensive sort of a "warning", seeing the (predictable) blowback from having done it.

Tossing them out of the country and banning them from returning wouldn't have been sufficient "warning", if that's what they were after?

@mcfate @allin @cassandra17lina To discourage outside aid to Gaza that would complicate Israel's freedom to act on targets as needed. I can think of a few other reasons. But here's the problem: while Israel's cause is righteous its a cause being spearheaded by Netanyahu who will do just about anything to maintain political control. If he has to kill a few aid workers to maintain control of what's going on in Gaza - especially with the US coming in who he can't risk hitting- I think he would.
