I was on a food tour with a couple from Texas and a couple from SF. The couple from Texas were bemoaning how they would have loved to visit SF before it apparently turned into some apocalyptic cage fight where random people injected you with drugs as you pick your way through the rotting corpses.
Absolutely INSANE and perfectly serious. The SF folks were like "Um... not when we left."
I'm pretty sure the TX folks didn't believe the SF folks. It's a cult.

Downtown SF (tenderloin area) is pretty rough these days compared to 20 years ago. Large fentanyl problems. But that’s not all of the bay area and even Oakland is better now than 20 years ago.
