May 12, 1862~ In a bold and heroic endeavor, Robert Smalls led 12 other slaves and stole a Confederate warship, then turning it over to Union forces.

Smalls, a wheelman, quickly organized the Black crew and steered the ship out of Charleston harbor right past the unsuspecting Confederate forces.

For his daring deed, Smalls was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant. After the Civil War, he was elected congressman from South Carolina.

I asked my mom what N meant and she said derogatory word for black. I didn't understand bad words for colors. I went through colors asking good or bad. Is blue bad? Is pink bad? My friend and I colored together. She was sienna. It's like noone has ever had a box of crayons. I learned Asian people were yellow, tan people white, Indian red, red people sunburned white, and so forth. I'd stare at people trying to see these colors and could never see it. It doesn't make sense because its BS.

Today is Confederate Flag Day.

It's funny how the patience I have accumulated over an indefinitely long span of lifetimes gets shorter and shorter the closer we get to the end of the world as we know it.
