Never tried to smoke collards but it is the same basic technique as prepping tobacco* leaves to make a cigar.

Where do shredded bags of collards come from?!

FWIW might help to make a cigar: stack the leaves, roll them, slice lengthwise once and then crosswise every inch or so. Bite size pieces.
