If I want to get into Data Analytics what are my options? Any credible programs that are free or at least not hella expensive that I can complete?
I already do a lot of data gathering in my healthcare job but don’t have time to do anything meaningful with it.. nor does admin seem to care anyway.
@annamuneca good question. I fell into it kind of by accident.
Are you thinking of reporting, or more inferential/machine-learny type stuff?
@rpardee more along the lines of reporting since at this time I really don’t know much about machine learning type stuff
@annamuneca just an idea here but check out Coursera. Maybe they have something even for free.
@SaltyVeruca They do! I was just looking at it. I figured due to the fact that it seems like CoSo users are rather skilled I figured I'd ask here.
@annamuneca @SaltyVeruca I have been going through these in my spare time to get a better grasp on this as I build out a data collection strategy for #InstructionalDesign using #xAPI.
@annamuneca And that doesn’t describe my background but thought it might be a place to start so good luck!
@annamuneca , great idea! It might give you ideas on where to branch out in your discipline/areas of interest, decide if you want to code the reports or plug and play variables into an existing frame to analyze specific things?
I think Epic uses SQL.
Maybe snorkle around the major EMR/EHR sites for inspiration, too, (Epic, Oracle Cerner, etc?) 😎🥰
@LadyZurk @annamuneca I can confirm epic's reporting db uses SQL (as I recall they support a couple of different brands). Their operative datastore is mumps/cache that uses something called kb sql, which I don't think looks a ton like SQL.
IMHO anybody interested in data should learn SQL. It's the Esperanto of data manipulation languages.
@rpardee , thank you for your insight! 😊

@rpardee , Noice!
Thank you!
@annamuneca
I’m going to go through some of the courses on LinkedIn and then check out some Coursera courses.
I realize I’m already doing a lot of this and it’s the part I enjoy. I like data gathering, putting it together, seeing what it tells me and going from there.
Even if it takes me a few months to learn at least it’s a start.
