From @DeathStarPR on Zombie Twitter:

"The Emperor just ordered the murder of every single Jedi, but Yoda is old and had a bad debate. Is it time for Yoda to step out of the race?"

🤣 🤣 🤣

We do a weekly Saturday Movie Matinee. The only rule is it has to be a DVD on our shelves.

With Kevin Costner's in theatres, we decided today to watch ...

Dances with Wolves (Special Edition)

Prior films in our series are:

Shakespeare in Love
Good Night and Good Luck
Solo
Ed Wood
Last Action Hero
The Maltese Falcon
Mamma Mia!
The Hunt for Red October
Citizen Kane
Backdraft
Damn Yankees
Get Smart
Great Expectations
The Right Stuff
Seven Days in May

Having seen this a few times myself, you have no idea how fast those boosters are coming in to land. They break so fast.

This was filmed by someone at Playalinda Beach to the north, beyond 39A and 39B. He must have a very long-range lens.

Idle thought ... It won't happen, but ... If were to drop out, who would replace him? Kamala Harris is the obvious choice, but so far I haven't heard anyone mention Hillary Clinton.

But as I said, not gonna happen.

From Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg on Zombie Twitter:

"A new large sample, independent poll has Biden gaining 1 post debate, now leading, 45-44.

"IMHO the DC media world has been too quick to dismiss Trump/MAGA's ugliness, and we got an awful lot of Trumpian ugly last night. Appears voters saw it."

Interesting column by Heather Cox Richardson on Substack.

"Virtually unmentioned [by the pundits] was the fact that Trump lied and rambled incoherently, ignored questions to say whatever he wanted; refused to acknowledge the events of January 6, 2021; and refused to commit to accepting the result of the 2024 presidential election, finally saying he would accept it only if it met his standards for fairness."

Idle thought ... Seeking opinions ... What if were to pledge to retire in 2026 and let Kamala Harris take the helm? Pros and cons?

My main concern is that 2026 is a mid-term year. I don't know if switching ship captains in a mid-term year is a good idea.

Idle thought ... What if Bannon doesn't report to prison on Monday? What if he stages a stunt, forcing the US Marshals (or whomever) to handcuff and drag him in front of right-wing TV cameras?

, after all, is all about performance art.

Here's what the editorial board had to say in 2012 after didn't live up to their expectations in the first Romney debate.

"... Mr. Obama’s competitive edge from 2008 clearly dulled, as he missed repeated opportunities to challenge Mr. Romney on his falsehoods and turnabouts."

Sound familiar?

From :

gave an animated speech today in North Carolina, acknowledging he gave a weak performance last night.

“I know I’m not a young man. I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t talk as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to, but i know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job, I know how to get things done..”

Spoiler for this thread ... Obama won a month later, 51.1% - 47.2%. Obama won the electoral college, 332-206.

So don't panic over last night's "debate." Lots of time to go.

A Pew Research Center poll published October 8, 2012 after the first / Romney debate.

Romney’s Strong Debate Performance Erases Obama’s Lead

GOP Challenger Viewed as Candidate with New Ideas

pewresearch.org/politics/2012/

Here's a column criticizing performance in his first 2012 debate with Romney.

"A stunned Obama campaign acknowledged Thursday that President Barack Obama delivered a lackluster and even ineffectual performance in his leadoff debate against Mitt Romney, mistakenly opting for a cautious approach to handling his opponent that all too often left Obama looking timid and disengaged."

Reporting by The Guardian in 2012 of the first / Romney debate.

"Republican candidate lifts conservative morale with a strong and forceful performance against a passive, lacklustre Obama"
