@homebird If #Trump cuts off #Ukraine and withdraws from #NATO, I think it comes to an end real quick. Ukraine will capitulate, surrendering captured territory, perhaps Zelenskyy has to flee and a Russian puppet government returns to power. #Putin cares more about the latter than physical occupation of territory; I think Zelenskyy's election is what convinced him to invade Ukraine.
@catlynne333 I've long believed that the big nations use proxy wars as a place to test their weapons before a big war. In this case, the US can see how well the ATCAMS work, and #Russia can see how well their SAM defenses work -- all without the messy fuss of a direct confrontation.

@REDonaldAuthor I got sidetracked by other interests -- I wound up in law enforcement out of college -- but Russian was always in the background. Years later, I acted as translator (badly) when a Russian delegation came to visit our city. When I worked at Kennedy Space Center doing tours, occasionally we'd get Russians who were very happy that someone could understand them and not hate them because of the Space Race. I always acknowledged they had most of the space firsts.
@REDonaldAuthor Here are a couple pages from our 1974 Russian textbook. It clearly dates the work with snappy phrases such as, "The proletariat hero loved to work" and "Lenin was a good Communist."
I think they were training us for the Foreign Service, or CIA translator, or somesuch.
In college back in the 1970s (yes, I'm old), I studied Russian for two years and Russian history for a year.
I've decided to delve back into the language and history, for no other reason than we're probably going to be Putin's fiefdom in a few months. 🙄
@Kinnison I really don't know what to expect with Vance. He seems entirely amoral. He's never been a governor or run anything where he had to stake his career on a political position.
I don't think he's inclined to have the US military in the streets arresting people, but I'm sure he has his own agenda.
