There are media reports of a second vote attempt later today or tonight, but nothing announced so far.

For those who missed today's earlier House speaker vote, it's now available on my News from the Past YouTube channel. 🍿

The speaker pro tempore confirms the final vote. He puts the House floor into recess "subject to recall of the chair."

Nancy Pelosi was famous for never bringing a vote to the floor unless she knew she was going to win.

It appears that Jordan doesn't know that, any more than McCarthy did, or Paul Ryan.

That said ... Jordan got a public vote and knows who he needs to flip, at least 17 of the 20.

It looks like no one "crossed the aisle" to vote for an opposition party candidate. All Democrats voted for Jeffries.

Jeffries would need 217 to get to Speaker, but he'd have to pull five of those Others and that seems unlikely.

Looks like the final count for Round 1 is:

Jeffries 212
Jordan 200
Others 20
Present 0

Circling back to call members who didn't vote. Right now the count is:

Jeffries 211
Jordan 199
Others 16

Reports have said that some Republicans pledged to vote for Jordan only on the first ballot, so we'll have to see about subsequent rounds.

Jeffries first to 200

Jeffries 200
Jordan 182
Others 15

Still counting ...

Both sides of the aisle stand to applaud Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK) who's just returned after the death of her husband in a plane crash.

Kevin McCarthy just voted for Jordan, received applause from the Republican conference.

Idle thought ... If Jordan loses this vote, will he claim voter fraud? πŸ€”

The "Z" candidate appears to be Lee Zeldin a former Republican representative from New York.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Zeld

chyron says no candidate will have enough votes to be elected speaker. Second round expected.

Another vote for McCarthy. That's seven votes for others.

Another vote for Zeldon, whoever that is. Six votes now for Other.
