#Politics House Speaker lollapalooza delayed by quorum vote. The time expired long ago, still waiting for four members to show up. If some don't show, it affects the final count and margin of victory.
#Politics All 212 Democrats have voted present. Republicans are missing two, still waiting.
#Politics One Republican didn't vote present in the quorum.
Jordan just placed in nomination by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY). Going on an anti-Biden rant.
#Politics BREAKING ... Jim Jordan wearing a jacket on the House floor!
#Politics Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) places Hakeem Jeffries' name in nomination for speaker.
#Politics No more nominations, so it's Jordan vs. Jeffries. Given no other Republican candidate's name was placed in nomination, I have to think that's a good sign for Jordan.
Some Republicans had said they were going to vote for McCarthy or Trump or another candidate.
#Politics The roll is being called ...
#Politics Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) votes for Kevin McCarthy. Jordan loses a vote.
#Politics Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) didn't vote on first call. Three so far have not responded when called.
#Politics A second vote for McCarthy. I didn't catch who it was.
#Politics Someone cast a vote for Lee Zelton, then the next Republican voted for Scalise.
#Politics There are now five votes for other candidates than Jordan or Jeffries.
#Politics Another vote for Scalise. Nine votes for others.
#Politics The "Z" candidate appears to be Lee Zeldin a former Republican representative from New York.
#Politics Another vote for Zeldin. That's 12 now for Other.
#Politics Another vote for McCarthy. 13 others.
#Politics Idle thought ... If Jordan loses this vote, will he claim voter fraud? ๐ค
#Politics Kevin McCarthy just voted for Jordan, received applause from the Republican conference.
#Politics Both sides of the aisle stand to applaud Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK) who's just returned after the death of her husband in a plane crash.
#Politics Steve Scalise votes for Jordan.
#Politics Circling back to call members who didn't vote. Right now the count is:
Jeffries 211
Jordan 199
Others 16
Reports have said that some Republicans pledged to vote for Jordan only on the first ballot, so we'll have to see about subsequent rounds.
#Politics It looks like no one "crossed the aisle" to vote for an opposition party candidate. All Democrats voted for Jeffries.
Jeffries would need 217 to get to Speaker, but he'd have to pull five of those Others and that seems unlikely.
#Politics Nancy Pelosi was famous for never bringing a vote to the floor unless she knew she was going to win.
It appears that Jordan doesn't know that, any more than McCarthy did, or Paul Ryan.
That said ... Jordan got a public vote and knows who he needs to flip, at least 17 of the 20.
#Politics The speaker pro tempore confirms the final vote. He puts the House floor into recess "subject to recall of the chair."
#Politics For those who missed today's earlier House speaker vote, it's now available on my News from the Past YouTube channel. ๐ฟ
#Politics There are media reports of a second vote attempt later today or tonight, but nothing announced so far.
@WordsmithFL Also, a moderate Republican could be elected speaker, if only there were 5 Republicans in the House who were loyal Americans, not insane cultists, and not terrified of the insane cultists.
But 5 loyal Americans out of the GOP caucus is a big ask.
@WordsmithFL oh how sad thanks for telling me
#Politics Another vote for Scalise. That's eight votes for others.
