Interesting: Editorial board of Haaretz, Israel's leading newspaper, says Netanyahu himself is squarely responsible for the disaster, having ignored the potential consequences of escalating aggression toward Palestinians. https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/editorial/2023-10-08/ty-article-opinion/netanyahu-bears-responsibility/0000018b-0b9d-d8fc-adff-6bfd1c880000 #Israel #rightwing #theocracy
@AkomoCombine I am very well aware of Haaretz's political leanings. Mass protests by Israeli citizens have expressed their displeasure at the government's direction, and specifically, the handling of the Court. Israel is unfortunately heading towards a far right, theocratic and undemocratic form of government. Current situation more than likely accelerates the process. Israel's voting demographics will intensify this shift to far right: https://www.vox.com/world-politics/2023/2/23/23609584/israel-right-wing-young-voters-palestine
@Victor They were elected. If the Israeli left doesnt like it, then they vote them out next election.
You cant deny an election result because you dont like the result.
@AkomoCombine The Vox article does a pretty good job of explaining the right wing shift and voting tendencies as of today as well as explicating how things ended up as they are right now. If religious extremism like Ultra-Orthodox continues to become a norm then things will get worse...
@Victor Yes and your big IF there is key. Tell me are you Israeli? i mean do you live in Israel?
@AkomoCombine Wow. Interesting shift in conversation. The situation in Israel should not concern me if I am not Israeli nor live in Israel?
@Victor Yes it does make a difference since you dont have a vote there if your not Israeli.
Some folks here HAVE a interest because they have family who DO live there and HAVE a vote.
So whatever Vox says is opinion and they are entitled to that. But unless they live there, they cant vote to effect change.
So going back to your original post- its opinion and not a fact ,filled with what if's scenarios on your part.
@AkomoCombine Appreciate your candor. Disagree with some of the points nonetheless. Mind you, I said points and not you personally.
@Victor I make it because part of the reason why we are here is that the MSM used to be gatekeepers of information and this is how they manipulate populations.
Humans cant help it - but we do need to be aware of it.
When we are aware, then we can make better decisions- for everyone.
@AkomoCombine When someone or something states that they are they only source of truth then do contemplate that they indeed are not the truth. Sounds a lot like TFG. I spend an inordinate amount of time going down rabbit holes to check not just the source of the information (background, funding...) but attempt to corroborate the information from other sources. Again, appreciate your time and thoughts.
@AkomoCombine @Victor I will chime in here. American citizen, son of a Hungarian Holocaust survivor with family and friends in Israel. I read left wing and right wing Israeli news sources on a weekly basis. I am biased, like everyone else. I will say that I used to have great respect for Netanyahu. My opinion of him has changed drastically in the last decade. At the same time, it's absurd to pin the cause of any Palestinian action on one person. /1
@hallmarc @AkomoCombine Thank you for your input. Appreciate it.
@AkomoCombine @Victor the Palestinians are regional pawns who are frequently viewed as having more agency than they actually do. They are part and parcel of a (sometimes proxy) war that has been waged for over a century against first the Jews and then the state of Israel as their embodiment.
The requirements to meet even a portion of their demands (and by extension those of the Arab world) are completely unrealistic. A return to 1967 borders? Nobody can take that seriously. /2
@AkomoCombine @Victor sorry guys, lots more thoughts but caught up in some issues at home. Will write more when I'm able...
@Victor
Haaretz is firmly left wing
While this site is firmly right wing-

You know what the difference is between Israel and Palestinians?
Both these websites have a right to be heard in Israel.
Jews have no rights in Palestinian territories.
So freedom to chose what you read in Israel , or no freedom to choose anything in the Palestinian territories.
