Hi @VaKnow22, have you bought shoes just for running? Now that I've committed to this torture I'm thinking it's time to invest in a proper pair

@APlanToGo

Hope you don't mind me chiming in. If you can, it's a really good idea to visit a place that specializes in running shoes. They will analyze your gait and foot shape and be able to recommend the right shoe for the kind of running you plan to do.

Running shoes can be complicated bits of engineering, factoring in stability, pronation, running surface, and more.

I did a TON of research when I trained for a long-distance (60 miles/3 days) walk, and got no blisters!

@tyghebright @VaKnow22 I appreciate the advice, thanks. Running is something I've only just started and so I'm reluctant to spend a whole load of £££ on shoes, but I also don't want to cause myself any damage. Is there usually an obligation to buy when visiting a specialist?

@APlanToGo @VaKnow22

Definitely not. Obviously, they'll be hoping you do, but it's fine to just be doing research.

Alternately, you can do your own research.

If you're just getting started, it may not be as important to get exactly the right shoe, but it can help you know what's going on if you are getting some discomfort.

Yeah definitely invest in a good pair of running shoes. I personally have used barefoot/minimal shoes. But be careful, do your research, if you run landing on your heel you’ll hurt yourself. (Born to Run is a good book about it)

@VaKnow22 @tyghebright Thanks, I didn't think I'd need to invest in good shoes yet but I'm already feeling discomfort and so will do some research
