@TheNewsOwl I wonder if there will eventually be a great reverse migration back east.
@TheNewsOwl
not surprising. still can't believe there is a single lawn in the Southwest.
@peeppeepcircus @TheNewsOwl Or alfalfa field out in the desert :/
@Tattoomonkey29 @TheNewsOwl yup that belongs to other countries that somehow gets our water for almost free?
meanwhile, water-intensive almond tree plantations in *checks notes* central California where many residents don't have drinking water because their wells ran dry are saying "hold my beer"
@peeppeepcircus @TheNewsOwl But the Saudis are known far and wide for their prime Arizona Alfalfa aren't they?๐ I live up in Shasta County and wells are dry all over Almonds were a really, really bad idea Ag on but Republicans would rather blame anything else instead of their choices both down south and up here Did you see the documentary that showed places in central valley that the ground level has dropped since the 50's due to emptying aquifers and family farms of generations going under?
@Tattoomonkey29 @TheNewsOwl
๐ definitely follow all #drought news in #centralcalifornia & have seen a few docs. what's happening is a terrible non-self-aware way of destroying our land & resources, while chasing a buck. pistachios nuts that get exported to other countries and we never see them. felt like pbs news hour started giving decent coverage then others followed. do you know about allensworth and tooleville? #centralvalley has a history of weaponizing water access against people too.
@peeppeepcircus @TheNewsOwl Exactly true, I get so mad at the same Covid denying MAGA people up here with their "ain't nobody going to tell ME when I can water my lawn or wash my car" I grew up in 1970s Santa Barbara and was always taught to be mindful of water and electricity , ( they were worse with the "don't tell me to not use MY AC" hell I pay flat rate for water and still use it sparingly! I'm not recognizing the names but I'll look them up!
@peeppeepcircus @TheNewsOwl I know that at least in S.Cali this is what happens when for decades developers used their $ and connections with politicians to build massive housing with no requirements as to water sourcing in the future. I read an article 15 years ago about how they pulled it off.It is sick and now people are stuck with soon to be worthless properties. My parents had a home in a beautifully landscaped gated community in Victorville in the 90's I'm glad they sold it quickly.
@TheNewsOwl ๐ฒ๐ณ
@TheNewsOwl glad we high tailed it out of the SW when we did.
seen this coming decades ago.
@TheNewsOwl Gee, who would have thunk that building cities (including homes with lawns) in the DESERT would be a bad idea? ๐
@TheNewsOwl Oh boy... and yet they're still building in the desert.
