My advice to the newcomers:

1) check out @CoSoTips or
2) check out commonly used hashtags at @realDDGlover ‘s timeline
3) Introduce yourself.
4) watch the firehose & follow those with similar interests. People have control over privacy, so many convos may not be on firehose, but are in friends columns.

5) GIVE IT SOME TIME. There is a huge influx from Twitter rn, as you can imagine. Let things settle a bit and then make up your mind. It’s a bit crazy rn 😅

6) welcome other newbies!

I just wanna say, the big takeaway for me in the Gizmodo article today is the good things he noted about the community - and that's you guys, and it's on you guys. So, thank YOU guys.

I've said it before... I just built the sandbox, it's you guys that craft the sandcastles.

Keep being awesome. 👊

Sometimes it takes decades to figure out what is "my stuff" verses what are "my things."

Being angry has always been an excellent motivator, and it has driven the good work of political action since the dawn of time.

Our problem is that social media has perverted our understanding of effective anger, by convincing us that anger itself 𝘪𝘴 political action. It gave us license to stop doing the work.

Every gardner knows that declaring, "I finished weeding _______ " is a momentary truth.

Privately, they know only a temporary truce has been achieved.

Just mentioned in a DM that part of my experience of has been bittersweet precisely because, after years of thinking I was just a tedious weirdo for wanting to talk about subjects that no one else seemed interested in (i.e., subjects that weren't trending), and in much more *careful* ways, too... it was so easy to find my people here.

*So* easy!

So--it's been bittersweet to realize how much time I'd lost to toxic spaces.

But I'm glad to focus on the "sweet" part of that equation now. 😊

Hey CoSo -
Is it my imagination, or is the User Name link (in the first fixed column) no longer active as it once was?
Was kinda convenient....🤔

For some reason sidewalk ants have decided to explore my house. (Not the little sugar ants who have food in mind.) Nope. These larger scouts have no particular objective but to wander aimlessly around dropping their little pheromone trails for their buddies to follow.

The Windex bottle is my weapon. Works great. Except after one day, I feel terrible watching them fight & die in a puddle of soap knowing I did that. Empathy for the ant. (oh, god...)

Tomorrow we fix the tiny gap on the door.🐜

Evangelical White Nationalist Fascists have been telling us that there are only TWO ways to protect white majority rule in this country:

1. Block immigration.
(Build the wall rhetoric/Keep them out)

2. Produce more white babies. (Abortion ban, including rape/incest. Lowering legal age for marriage to increase child bearing years. Contraception ban...coming.)

If you think these things are not related, think again.

Related: On CounterSocial, follower counts aren't nearly as valuable as quality posts.

We aren't here to collect or compare stats. We're here for genuine interactions with real people without algorithmic interference!

For those wondering why photos taken from a phone might be rotated incorrectly when posting:

CoSo strips all EXIF data while uploading (for your safety and privacy). Among other things, that data may include rotation info, and wiping that out may cause your photos to un-rotate. This is a known bug, on the list to be addressed down the line.

To correct in the short term, make a small edit to your photo of any type, save that copy, and upload again.

NEW PEOPLE Welcome

Please understand our platform

We are not like twitter following is not a big deal .....people with lots of followers is not a thing.... if someone has a lot it just means they are welcoming and friendly..We value communication . not prestige. this is not a clique.like you had in junior high.

Patience grasshoppers. When there is change, it can be overwhelming. we get that, felt it too when we were new. Release expectations that things are, should be or will be the same as from where you came. They aren't, they aren't meant to be & they won't be. That's why COSO is unique.

Sit back, relax, read the user's guide (ink is in my profile), & be patient w/our host who is extremely busy tweaking all things to make this your best experience. Expect hiccups, it's ok, it will smooth out. 💜

Another 🙂

Because CoSo doesn't promote content, new folks find accounts to follow through different ways

1. Watch the community firehose for interesting posts and follow

2. Check out hashtags, many of which are pinned on @realDDGlover 's account :)

3. Folks are friendly and you are welcome to join threads--find your tribe that way

and Enjoy!!
