If you run for office as a member of a political party, then switch parties AFTER you're elected and in office, you should have to pay back every single campaign donation you got under penalty of Bait And Switch Fraud laws.
@Stonekettle Absolutely!
It is not possible to be more in agreement than I am with this.
@Stonekettle I think she did it because sheβs trying to avoid a primary fight.but who is her constituency? Hedge fund managers?
@Stonekettle
So, I think you can ask the campaign for a refund. Maybe there should be a movement toward that action, if true. IANAL
@Stonekettle Absolutely!
@Stonekettle I get your point, but itβs a slippery slope problem- what happens when the party is really on the wrong track, and to serve the public interest you need to stand against (whatever the issue is)? This kind of think can EASILY be weaponized.
Then you leave the party and join the leaver.
And request that all of your donations to the party be refunded.
@Stonekettle agree!
@Stonekettle
And include a hand-written apology.
@Stonekettle Oh heck yeah. Absolutely.
@Stonekettle Amen.
@Stonekettle Oh well - if she wasn't so despicable and self-serving I could understand this rule.
