@Sr0bi @Bix Got the last portable AC at Lowes after Beryl (couple days of no power). Enough for our bedroom.

A window unit won't work because windows are vertical. As it was the opening was too tall and we used cardboard and duct tape to improvise.

No casement window AC at Lowes. I could order one but now have the portable.

@Bix @Sr0bi Wow, how many batteries is that?

Whole house?

I shudder at the cost. I looked at whole house generators after Ike, but had trouble justifying it for the rare hurricane. Would have been nice during the freeze but I heard gas lines froze as well?

@NiveusLepus @PurpleDragon @Kurtroedeger
At Fiesta in San Antonio, the longest food line was for seemed like an army of abuelas making fresh tortillas in large iron pots. Served hot with butter.
Skeptical till I had one, then got back in line for more.

Butter, just butter, and tortilla. Worlds different than the bland tortillas you get from fast food places like Del Taco.

@AskTheDevil @DevinY1 Right. I would be more cautious in a rural area, for example.

I do think it is self-perpetuating though. People on both sides take encouragement seeing they aren't alone.

At the March for Our Lives rallies the anti-gun people turned out in massive numbers, but there were two or three counter-protesters WITH RIFLES on the sidelines. (They stayed quiet on the sideline, outnumbered 10,000:1.)

Police watched them, but open carry is legal here.

Study finding gerrymandering gives GOP a five seat advantage in Texas.

@cassandra17lina There was a story on Sunday Morning in past couple of years about an island off of Virginia or Carolinas that is slowly disappearing as waters rise. A whole town and community is being engulfed.

Many RESIDENTS interviewed were STILL in denial. They blamed it on simple erosion. (There is increased erosion BECAUSE of rising waters, but they refuse to connect the dots.)

Denial has become part of their identity to the point they can't accept it even as it engulfs them.

@AskTheDevil @DevinY1 Agree.

Everyone has to do their own thing, but I don't want intimidation to work.

@DevinY1 Flying my colors. I figure people need the encouragement they are not alone.

We take them on at night so they don't get stolen. Kinda surprised our area is balanced based on which signs we see out.

@Victor Yep

They have all the information I use to fill out taxes. They calculate it too. I have gotten a letter saying they show I owe X, and to sent it if I agree. (I already sent it in a revised 1040X.)

Our numbers agreed, but why not just send me the bill in the first place?

@Kenneth_Leonard_Kirk 100% of people who vote GOP at this point support it. You can't claim to not support the thing you just voted to enable.

Tired of people claiming to support or not support something and then voting otherwise.

Own the consequences of your votes.

@Victor 95% of Americans are under the mistaken impression that private weather companies do something other than just repackage NOAA information.

Worse, lobbyists from those companies prevented development of a free app from the government so they can continue to sell advertising for their apps and channels.

Watch The G Word on Netflix. Learn about the good, and bad, of the government. People are oblivious to the ways government serves everyone.

@TrueBloodNet If the driven, yet clueless space-CEO* story seems familiar, For All Mankind kinda took that story angle forward in their later seasons, along with the grounded but experienced captain, with the added tension of a 2-way race between NASA, the company, and Russia.

So I got a payoff in a different series, I guess.

*Unlike Elon. both of these series' characters are somewhat likable, but flawed.

For All Mankind balances the "soap opera" stories a bit better I guess.

@TrueBloodNet Spoiler: It starts with the first mission, by a private company, blowing up on takeoff. Penn is most experienced astronaut, grounded for reasons we gradually learn, watching the crew he trained blow up.
Season is about him, his daughter, the oblivious CEO of the company trying to avoid bankruptcy, the families of the crew.

It wasn't light-hearted fantasy. But I wanted to see the space stuff too. Bummer.

@TrueBloodNet No way of knowing in advance really.

I find most have seasons that somewhat wrap up, but leave some opening.

The First starred Sean Penn about a first mission to Mars. I liked it but many joined for sci-fi only to find a psychological drama. (Zero space scenes in first season) So it never got an audience.

The season ENDED with them taking off for the mission.

I started it without knowing it was already canceled.

Will you start watching a canceled show? (streaming)

I find interesting series that I learn were canceled before coming to a logical conclusion. (I don't count those as canceled really.)

In some cases I have felt burned investing time in a series (The First, for example) hitting a cliffhanger season ending only to learn of no follow-up.
Of course, series we like get canceled all the time after we start them. This question is about knowing it only got 1-3 seasons before starting.

@GrazingintheGrass Dream for Tomorrow and Voters of Tomorrow are two organizations to support encouraging young voter registration and participation.

@GrazingintheGrass Forget policy positions for a moment. I cannot fathom anyone listening to that debate and concluding Trump was more competent to lead the nation.

I think that is why rational conservatives also support Harris (the Cheneys, Kinzinger, etc.) while likely disagreeing on most policy issues.

The ignorance has to be willful not to see Trump is unfit.

Encouraged to see young voters whipping other young voters into action to correct that turnout disparity. Hope it works.
