I'm stuck on Steve Garvey today. I don't understand why someone with his life creds needs the aggravation, at 75 years old, of participating in a losing campaign for a U.S. Senate seat. Can anyone make sense of it for me? $175K Senate salary is the interest he gets annually on his #MLB pension.
@Graci Gotta be. Or too much time on his hands and his wife wants him out of the house.
@SSNBubblehead: He wants to feel relevant. His dander and likely his cognitive senescence have been put all aswirl by Fox News, Newsmax, OAN, the GOP/Q, and all, and like Hershel Walker he figures he can win on name recognition and that he was a "sports hero".
@SSNBubblehead maybe he is declining mentally and the gop saw a sucker that agreed with their hateful beliefs. They probably don’t have to throw too much money behind him. Probably making him spend his own the way Trump is bleeding them dry
@SSNBubblehead ego & ideology?
@SSNBubblehead U.S. senators are influence peddlers. Figure out how much that is in a year.
If not about money, it’s about power.
@LnzyHou At this point in his life, what the ever lovin' hell does Steve Garvey give a flat flying fig about power?? The dude has no financial concerns; he'll never have to buy a beer in LA ever again.
What’s your guess?
@LnzyHou I'm honestly at a loss.
Someone stroked his ego (or promised him generational wealth) is the only answer that makes any sense to me.
@SSNBubblehead Who bought him?
@TheresaVermont If he's bought, it's Saudi-style generational wealth. Right this minute, Steve Garvey should have all the money he (or his grandkids) ever need - unless he lost it in Vegas.
@SSNBubblehead I am reminded of Jim Bunning. Good pitcher but lousy Senator.
@SSNBubblehead
My brain went to.a more cynical space. He's a vocal Trumper. Might it be possible that he's in league with time of their team and has backing behind the scenes?
@SSNBubblehead He probably has an authoritarian streak, this is his chance, and he is bored in retirement.
@danielbsmith I can assure you, 6 months after you get 7 days a week to yourself, no one is bored in retirement. You find the second gear. Your life changes. You do NOT run for a US Senate seat at 75 YO, unless you're incentivized.
@SSNBubblehead He's probably been promised things that he believes are true then.
@SSNBubblehead Ego?
