I love Bataille. His essays and wolrdviews, his secret society... L'Abbe C is also good/weird/filthy spiritual etc... his fierce anti-Nazism, just so ahead of his time.
@TheAbbotTrithemius This was the first thing of his I read — it came up in another novel I loved, C.J. Leede's "Maeve Fly" — but I may check out more later.

If you like that sort of transgressive writing you may also like Blaise Cendrars's "Moravagine" and Comte de Lautréamont's "Les Chants des Maldorer".
Bataille also produced serious philosophy like "Inner Experience" which is based on Nietzsche.
