Truth. I can't count how many times I've had friends dip in and out of my life and suddenly pop back up and make my absolute year by just being there for me. Unless they are living with me, I generally "forget" they exist until they engage with me again. No offense, it's just how my brain is wired!

@FireMonkey Self diagnosis with autism is actually not a bad thing. It's a very broad spectrum of neurosis so maybe speaking to your primary care about getting an assessment may help?

@PaganMother
What!? I'm a man, I don't ask for help or directions. I'd get demerits on my oh so important man card. /s

Also, I don't know what one would do about it. Kind of like cutting my wrist open the other day accidentally or breaking a finger. It's just wrap it up and get on with things.

@FireMonkey xD Well, for the most part, the medical workers can connect you to resources and support networks of adult autistics to help you navigate ways to work around the various comorbidity issues that come up from autism. Some of those conditions that crop up are depression, anxiety, and audio/sight/touch sensitivities, fidgeting and a dozens of other conditions.

@FireMonkey I would actually suggest looking into self advocacy networks however, because they can often provide a lot more resources for adults that have been living with it most of their lives already.

@FireMonkey Organizations that help build a better understanding of autistic needs and support requirements for adults and youth. They speak specifically with autistic patients themselves to help the medical industry better understand what we need to live a more comfortable and adaptable life. autisticadvocacy.org/ This is one of the best ones I'm aware of.

@FireMonkey There are other organizations out there that don't speak specifically with autistic patients, unfortunately that have bigger footprints, such as Autism Speaks, but they do not have a single seated autistic person among their board of reps, nor do they allow autistics speak for their own experiences among their organization. They are more keenly focused on genetic studies and eugenic practices to "eliminate" or "cure" us, whereas we are simply braining differently.

@FireMonkey ASAN however does have seated autistic individuals on the board and work specifically with every autistic that comes to them for help as well as assist them with finding the supports they need in their region.
