Recently, I had the opportunity to record with @motheroftanks about the great loss Gen. George and Katherine Marshall, and their daughter-in-law Madge, suffered a week before D-Day:

I have never seen Saving Private Ryan, on purpose. My dad was on Dog Red on Omaha June 6, and I lived in Bedford, VA many years and know the families of the Bedford Boys.
It's being shown at work Saturday, so I thought it best to watch the beach scene and have the ugly cry in private.
How. the. hell. did. anyone. get. off. that. beach.
Bed for my cantaloupe and pumpkins so they don't take over the garden.
Also my volunteer peach tree.

@Tacitus_Kilgore On the large scale I agree.
On the small, local scale I see people from all kinds of cultures and traditions doing incredible things for the betterment of their communities; lifting up the downtrodden and bringing real positive change.
As usual, the people doing the *real* work aren't politicians or celebrities or the wealthy. It's being done by ordinary, otherwise unremarkable people just loving their neighbours and making a difference every day.
