I think the only way to make self checkout at stores desirable for consumers, is to make purchases at the self checkout discounted, so that there would be an actual incentive to use them, otherwise I will continue to go to the manned checkout!

@MeTheUnfiltered

I'm not sure I'd use them even if items were cheaper.

Every one of those things in a store is two more people without a job: the cashier and the bagger.

I'm old enough to shake my cane at self-checkout just on principle.

@MeTheUnfiltered

I feel self checkout punishes me for buying booze, or produce items sold by weight

Also trying to go faster and getting "UNKNOWN ITEM IN BAGGAGE AREA"

@Kinnison @MeTheUnfiltered I hate those things for all those reasons, plus they put employees out of jobs.
Thanks, but it wasn't my plan to work at your store for food. 🤨

@MeTheUnfiltered Walmart kinda does that a bit at Sam's - the scan-and-go on their app does discounts on marked items.

I would agree that if they gave a discount at self-checkout it would help. Also would help if the shelf tags matched the app prices and the ring-up as well - I've seen one price in the app that matched the shelf tag but was higher at checkout. I think WM blamed not having time to change the shelf to the higher price (wroooong).

@MeTheUnfiltered I dont go to Safeway to be a checkout clerk. I unfortunately had to do it this morning.

Even if they paid me, it is ridiculous. We typically just do grocery delivery or pick up instead.

@MeTheUnfiltered I find that it's usually faster. That's enough incentive for me.

@MeTheUnfiltered the reality is that the software was junk and contines to be junk. It is infinitely more stupid than even an educationally sub-normal human.

@MeTheUnfiltered i won't self checkout. i don't work for free. you want me to work? make it worth my time
