WE'VE DONE IT TO OURSELVES
ON this date in 1991 - Trade sanctions were imposed on Haiti by the U.S. to pressure the new leaders to restore the ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to power.
US Senators Bun Man and Mr. Purple supported the sanctions, although both had private reservations about its' effect, but they were told Aristide was the kind of dictator America could live with, so they went along to get along.

ON this date in 1618 - Sir Walter Raleigh was beheaded under a sentence that had been brought against him 15 years earlier for conspiracy against King James I.
Bun Man and Mr. Purple are crouched near me this morning and reading this too (they are so cute when they read from the computer screen).

ON this date in 1971 - Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident in Macon, GA.
Bun Man, Mr. Purple and I remember this day like it was yesterday as the Boyz and I had seen Duane the year before in a concert at Shippensburg State College.
Gratefully, the Allman Bros. Band would continue, but sadly, this musical genius and slide master is still missed, but remembered fondly every time we hear that slide solo in Layla or his searing work on Boz Scagg's 'Somebody Loan Me a Dime'...
