Even in Congress, a journey of some distance begins with a first step...
ON this date in 1892 - Jesse W. Reno patented the Reno Inclined Elevator. It was the first escalator. Local firemen, Bun Man and Mr. Purple, were called for a rescue mission later that day when two Congressmen were stuck on the escalator after it broke down. They couldn't figure out how to take the first step.
A rescue mission is in order now as today's congressional sample can't seem to figure out a 'first step' either.
ON this date in 1968 - "LIFE" magazine called Jimi Hendrix "the most spectacular guitarist in the world."
Bun Man was flabbergasted.
Mr. Purple tried to console Bun on this slight by 'Life', but Bun was inconsolable.
Bun later realized that there really wasn't much support for the electric ukelele yet as a rock instrument.
Bun somehow knew he was ahead of his time.
At the time, Bun Man was philosophical, "Hey, I don't even like their commercials, why in the hell would someone want to watch these poseurs live?"
Mr. Purple replied "Politics are always local, Americans seldom bond (or view debates) over national issues..."

ON this date in 1977 - The U.S. House of Representatives began a 90-day test to determine the feasibility of showing its sessions on television.
The show's producers, Bun Man and Mr. Purple, were skeptical from the start.
When no major networks signed on for the viewings, the Boyz knew their show would be banished to C-Span.
