Yale was named after Elihu Yale (1649-1721), a governor of the British East India Company who donated a crate of goods to the fledgling school.

And No One that I know has ever really come up with a justification for why ELIHU is no longer a popular boys name.

@Madken65 Probably the same reason a lot of Hebrew names have become unpopular: antisemitism and the fear of it.
