I am very proud to say my new music podcast is finally live. "Let's Play Ten" is a bi-weekly show that features ten brand new songs from the indie/diy/small label community. We want to support these artists and their labels, and help some folks find their new favorite bands. We'll tell some stories and give you the info. "Let's Play Ten" is on Apple, Amazon, and Tune-In with other services to come. Please check it out! You can subscribe directly at https://www.40ficreations.com/podcast-1 #cosomusic

Next week I’ll be embarking on a new internet broadcasting adventure. “The Ten” will be a twice monthly stream, featuring newly released songs from DIY/indie/small label artists. Rock, Punk, Folk & Pop tunes from emerging artists you may not be familiar with. I’ll fill in the blanks when show #1 is ready to roll. I am really excited and enthusiastic! I’ve been out of the game for 5 years and I’ve got the itch again (with DIRECT thanks to @VelvetDuchess) #cosomusic
🎧 Faux Fiction, “Death No Terror!”. Long gestating new ep from one of my favorite DIY bands. Faux Fiction plays hot and sweaty rock and roll mini-operas about adult domestic life, navigating social circles, and damaged interpersonal relationships. Give it a listen and throw them a couple of bucks at https://fauxfictionband.bandcamp.com. #cosomusic #MPNP.
🎧 "A Tribute to Lifted...", Various Artists. Take This To Heart Records enlisted 13 of its artists to record a re-make of Bright Eyes' 2002 album "Lifted" and its WRECKING me. All proceeds go to the National Muscular Sclerosis Society. Pay what you want at https://takethistoheartrecords.bandcamp.com. #cosomusic #MPNP
I am going live on stationhead at 130pm EST. Stationhead.live/mpcavalier. DL the free app to join in the chat or join me on air. Thanks in advance!! #cosomusic
🎧 Beach Bunny, “Emotional Creature”. Lili Trifilio writes a killer pop hook and wraps it in some super sweet guitar driven pop-rock. Another great young artist laying herself all out there for our entertainment, and to our benefit. I almost let this one slip by and I’m glad I didn’t. #cosomusic #MPNP
🎧 Dawes, “Misadventures of Doomscroller”. I really want to like this album just I have wanted to like every Dawes release since “We’re All Gonna Die”. I love the first two albums, but with each subsequent release since then I have moved farther away from digging this band. I am all for creative evolution. Dawes is just evolving into something that doesn’t really entertain me anymore. They’ve “Wilco’d” themselves into my personal budget bin. #cosomusic #MPNP
🎧 Company of Thieves, "Running From a Gamble". It's a damn shame that COT only released two albums - because they are both most excellent. I would listen to Genevieve Schatz sing a grocery list. I love how she just explodes into an almost punk fury - this is solid aughts rock and roll. #CoSomusic #MPNP
At the suggestion of the forward thinking 'naut @VelvetDuchess - I am going to test out the Stationhead app. I'll be running a playlist of new indie rock/alt rock in a few minutes. On the stationhead app search for mpcavalier or go to stationhead.live\mpcavalier. Let me know if it works - going live in 3...2... #CoSomusic
🎧 Metric, "Synthetica". I think I may be actually falling in love with Metric's new album "Formentera" the way one falls in love with a person. But that's my hang up, right? When you are falling in love, you wanna know everything about that person/thing that brought them to the absolute perfection that you believe them to be. So, I am going back, re-visiting a few Metric albums, and deep-diving into the genesis of "Formentera"s deep dark secrets. I know. Weirdo. #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧 "The Fame Studios Story 1961-1973". Out of print and unavailable on streaming, my amazing SO got me this 3CD set for my birthday. The list of artists and instantly recognizable songs that came out of FAME Studios reads like a history of American soul and r&b, and the FAME sound is an integral part of that history. This will be my morning (at least!). #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧beabadoobee, “Beatopia”. I never know what to make of beabadoobee. She’s a shape shifter for sure so its always something a little different. The music is super listenable, there’s just…something I am not getting (?). I like the songs, but I want to REALLY love them. This new album has a very cool laid back psyche-folk vibe and Beatrice Laus’ voice is light and airy. She has a flair for melody too. When she kicks in the over drive on songs like “Talk”, I want more. #cosomusic #MPNP
🎧 “Jazz is Dead 13/Katalyst”. Hip-Hop/Jazz producers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammed have been inviting legacy jazz players to collaborate on the “Jazz is Dead” series for several years. This time they’re working with 9-piece collective Katalyst - to dramatic effect. While the organic jazz bubbles away on the surface, the production steers clear of any of the familiar hip-hop trappings, keeping the sounds natural and giving the record a live in the studio retro feel. #cosomusic #MPNP
🎧 Steve Lacy, "Gemini Rights". Again out of my comfort zone. My boys told me to give this one a listen (after we had finished dissecting Lizzo's new one). This is a very solid modern R&B record - beautifully produced - with very few of the go-to production hacks. An honest, soulful, organic record. Good for a Friday night. #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧 Lizzo, "Special". Lizzo is so far out of my musical comfort zone - but when I first heard "Coconut Oil" it was like a new door had opened for me, and I've been a fan ever since. I love everything about her. Her new album finally dropped today and it is FIRST on the Friday playlist. It's a brighter happier record than the debut. #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧 The Like, "Release Me". Mark Ronson-produced 60's girl-group revival, fronted by the daughter of the A&R guy at the label that released it. If you can get past the nepotism, this is a very good record. Ronson nailed the AM radio sound, the bass rumbles/the organ cuts, and vocalist Z Berg had the knack for merging L.A. pop lyrics with Brill Building melodies. Tennessee Thomas (daughter of Attraction Pete Thomas) got the beats just right. Released 2010. #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧 Manic Street Preachers, "The Holy Bible". One of the most brutal, harrowing albums ever made. Lyricist Richie Edwards poured all of his addictions, afflictions and mental health issues into every word, creating what would eventually be his suicide note (he disappeared the following year). MSP are full-on fury on this record, matching RE's internal chaos with a bitter abandon. Essential LP. #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧 Have You Ever Seen the Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS?, "Maine Coon". Interminable band name aside, this Finnish band's new release is just, well, fucking delightful. Sunny pop-punk (emphasis on POP) with great melodies, dashes of roller-rink organ, buzzy guitars and bass - it's like opening a well shaken bottle of soda - the effervesce bubbles over for the full 30 minutes of this far too short LP. Danceable garage pop. A much needed elixir. #CoSomusic #MPNP
🎧 Body Type, "Everything is Dangerous....". Hailing from the boiling-over Sydney music scene - Body Type is pulling from multiple post-punk and post-grunge styles here, creating a blistering set of songs that keep changing the pace. Sophie McComish has one of those sneering riot-grrl voices - she doesn't let you leave the room until SHE is done with you. Her vocal on "The Charm" - the band's response to the music biz' gender standards, drips with punk venom. Loving this record.#CoSomusic
