Do you have a poem, song, story, or film that hit you in completely different ways in different eras of your life?
This one used to hit *so deeply* as a clear affirmation that my absence would make things better.
Then a couple of years ago I reread it and realized that it was a *much* more holistic piece than I'd initially thought: all about how going forward is a way of healing what we leave behind. But I was *stunned* to realize that the other reading had been in this the whole time. #Poetry
Oh, that is *beautiful*. What a tale to grow with - not just across languages but also in your transition from child to child-in-every-adult reader, too.
I hope the English version delights anew, whenever you do treat yourself to it.
You've just reminded me, too - I first encountered Carlos RuÃz Zafón through the French version of his most famous work, gifted to me after my grandfather's death as his favourite book. Then I read it again in English, where it seemed a *much* more straightforward read.
But... now I can read La sombra del viento in its original Spanish if I want to. Hm hm hm! 🤔 That I might have to do. Thanks for the idea, Mohin!
@MLClark The Bible hits that way for me. In every age of life there is wisdom to be had there.
@MLClark In my case, that would be The little prince. I read it as a kid in Spanish (my native language) and I didn't like it at all. A few years later I read it in French and I liked it better. Then, over the years, I kept remembering little bits that I had not understood. As an adult, I re-read it and it immediately became my favorite story. Later I discovered that Saint-Exupéry wrote the original story in English, so I still have one more chance to enhoy it anew 😎 .
