Black bears pretty shy and scared of humans unless they are sick or starving, or have cubs.

Ours do hibernate. Went in late last fall, sure they are getting up soon.

Can't find the link right now but there was a nice piece written theorizing how a lesser Hebrew god of war rose to such prominence.

I truly don't understand why they are so afraid of women. Fear is what makes them want to control them.
