Our black bears 🐻 don’t hibernate in western NC. They wander around all winter looking for food. We live peacefully with them.

We have black bears up here. They like my beehives. We've had a few stand offs.
Black bears pretty shy and scared of humans unless they are sick or starving, or have cubs.
Ours do hibernate. Went in late last fall, sure they are getting up soon.

I can imagine. We had a bear running around downtown Asheville last year. Poor thing was terrified by the traffic and tourists.
