Patio Furniture, flower pots, bird feeders, lawn tools, put cars inside if you can to protect from flying objects, close any shutters, remove loose window boxes. Anything that can become a projectile.

7 yrs in hurricane alley.

So Cal people: if you're driving after the storm & come to a flooded wash, do NOT drive into that thing. Everybody thinks their car won't get stuck/washed away. You're wrong--it will and you will be screwed.

i have a high-quality cooler that i pack up with sandwich stuff, anything that i might want to eat that will keep for a few days, and frozen water bottles-- so i don't have to open the fridge at all. the ice melts, that's drinking water if needed.

i also fill the fridge with frozen water bottles, as much ice as you can make/get.

don't forget to stock up on pet food too

Make sure that all important paperwork is in a large zipper bag and in a safe location.

@Libnnc Water. Batteries. Cash. Candles. Snacks/Dry goods. A full tank of gas. Propane for grill/charcoal (you might be cooking on it if power is out)

East and Gulf Coast peeps, what are some hurricane preparedness tips you can share with folks new to this kind of disaster?

1. Fill your bath tub now with fresh water (you can use it later if your water goes out)

this simple 2 burner propane stove is what cooked all our meals when the power went out for 3weeks.

it had the optional adapter to connect 20lbs bottles. ( little camping cans are expensive and dont last long)

basic model costs under 100$, super easy to use, almost undestructible
