I'm very tired of the Merrick Garland hate. The idea that he's going to let Trump off the hook is not only offensive, it's silly. When you go for a former president—which has NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE HIS COUNTRY'S HISTORY—you'd better make sure all I's are dotted and T's crossed. Impugning the motives of a man who put a needle in Timothy McVeigh is offensive. Just my two cents. YMMV.

@LiberalLibrarian Totally agree. And I think that things have really gotten out of hand on that bird app in regards to this. People just spew their hate unchecked.

@DEShapiro Oh, not just there. Here as well. This was deffo a subtoot.

@LiberalLibrarian
I must admit I've on occasion have become impatient. Every time Laurence Henry Tribe, legal scholar, University Professor Emeritus at Harvard University and Garlands ex-teacher expresses his own impatience, it fuels mine.

@Americanist4u Look, I understand impatience. But Jaysus and the wee donkey. This is, to use that overused word, unprecedented. You'd best make sure you first shot is your kill shot.

@LiberalLibrarian
Those who know better than I have made your point. Garland is in an extraordinarily difficult position. The Jan 6 committee just set everything up for him, ready to indict. I say we are looking at months rather than another year.

@LiberalLibrarian I don't hate Garland, but like many, I'm chomping at the bit to get things rolling, especially when we're not getting a lot of information. I am very much aware of the stakes and the need for accuracy and iron-clad facts, but patience is sometimes at a premium and long in coming. Nobody wants any of these folks to walk on a technicalty or procedural error; we want it to be gotten right and done correctly; we just wish it didn't take so long.

@XaoslordErie That's the thing, though: In a working DOJ, we're not SUPPOSED to get information until the trial starts, or indictments are handed down. That this happened under Trump doesn't make it normal.

@LiberalLibrarian I understand this, having worked in IT and INFOSEC, but the average American really doesn't, unfortunately. Me, I'm just some irascible old bastich now.

@XaoslordErie Human beings aren't meant to absorb this much information in so short a time.

@LiberalLibrarian I think I have to agree. It's a lot to digest rationally.

@LiberalLibrarian I agree too. I remember the fallout of Nixon and the stealth it took to do. MGarland is making sure nothing can be thrown out. I like that. I can wait.

@LiberalLibrarian It reminds me of when people were livid Nancy Pelosi wouldn't file for impeachment every time 45 sneezed. She waited until she had iron-clad evidence.
Then Mitch McConnell saved his ass

@LiberalLibrarian Marcie Wheeler calls it whinging. I agree with you, though. Justice in this country has never been swift. It takes time, especially if you really want convictions.
