I'm not bribing my kids to make them do chores. I'm ensuring they understand they should be fairly compensated for their time and labor by paying them in Pokemon cards. There's a difference.
Pokemon cards work because I can get a box for 25,000won that has enough cards that the individual cards work out to 15cents/card. Five cards aren't much money, but they bring immeasurable joy and excitement. And it's what my kids want anyway.
The kids have regular family chores, like everyone else, that they do as part of helping the family. They also get a monthly spending allowance so they can practice shopping and budgeting. The Pokemon card chores are bonus chores that I could do but don't want to.

Three kinds of chores.
1. Mandatory
2. Extra to earn money, but optional.
3. Fun, bigger project ideas to do that we did not get paid for. But were actually fun and required cooperation with an adult.
