The US voting system is broken. Get rid of the electoral college. Federal laws need to override state voting laws but that is scary too. (Unless we can really trust the Fed Gov't. to do the right thing. We know we cannot trust state Gov'ts to play fair.
@Jones_NX03 That's a fair question. We need a truly progressive president and congress who are not kowtowing to the "other side". The bigger question is how to get money out of politics. No one wants to rock the boat and fear losing money from lobbyists and special interests. Money breeds corruption on all sides.
@Jones_NX03 Do you have any ideas about this?
@KaiMundo The electoral college is is messy system that was devised to get the Southern states (re: slave states) into the Union. It gave the slave states greater representation by counting the slaves as 3/5ths of a person for the census (that determines representatives which, in turn, determines electoral counts). Unfortunately it is part of the Constitution and would require a Constitutional Amendment to change. Workarounds would be the interstate compact.

@KaiMundo BTW if someone has a better and more complete history that will fit in 500 letters, go for it as I’m not a historian.
@KaiMundo I understand your frustration, but these sorts of things won’t happen without a plan of action. How do you propose we “get rid of” the electoral college?
