How is it that so many folks of my generation are unfamiliar with computers? Our generation invented the home computer, the Internet, the Web, graphical interfaces, laptops, cell phones...
I think you had to be willfully ignorant to not see what was going on all around you.
We were also the generation of the 60s. We wanted a revolution, we wanted a fair and just society. The Internet promised that, but too many sat back and let the capitalists and scammers gain control. It's a shame.
@LnzyHou
That I can appreciate.
I've worked on two Windows-based help desks, moderated a primarily Windows forum for over a decade, and spent the 5 years before I retired in 2020 upgrading Windows computers.
And yet, I realize I've forgotten much of what I knew during that period. Now that I'm using Apple products most of the time, all my Windows knowledge has, well, flown out the window.
I do still have a Windows laptop just to keep my hand in a bit.

Not everyone is computer savvy because not everyone needs to be. My PC background goes back to the late '80s, with clones, printers, laptops, etc. I just had a dream where I was playing on a guy's extensive system trying to inderstand it. Set up in a mall. Ever had a huge laugh during a dream? I did. A customer said she didn't recognize me, did I work there, & I said no, I'm just trying to help with their system, then said, "I'm the new guy!", following it with a huge laugh.
@Jeber My first direct experiences with computers were in the early 1980's - 1983, actually. My interests migrated from music, literature and foreign languages to mathematics. Computing was a means to an end, and I began to study it, but said study was cultishly demanding, and I withdrew from it for a few years. But I've been a software developer now for more than 25 years. This stuff is insanely limited and insanely powerful at the same time.😬
@Jeber
I do my best to keep up with tech developments but without the need for work (retired), it gets away from me.
