Besides putting the driver next to the curb instead of in traffic when they exit their vehicle, are there other practical advantages to driving on the left side of a road in England, for example? Asking because I’ve always just accepted it and never wondered why.
@kismatt Yes.
History lesson:
Before cars, when the horse was king, thise who could afford to, would carry a sword.
Being that most folk would hse their right hand for fighting off an attacker, riding on the left gave more freedom of movement.
The convention was so prevalent that eventually it became law as more and more roads were built and when cars came along, the same law applied. Cars therefore retained a right hand driving position for improved visibility when driving on the left.

@stueytheround @mickcarty @Jeber soooo Drivers STILL get out of the car into traffic.

Just told my missus. She wants a word 😂😂😂😂
@mickcarty
Tell her I'm English and I am running away, as is traditional 🤣
@kismatt @Jeber
@Jeber I thought the steering wheel is on the right where they drive on the left side of the road.
@see_the_sus @Jeber I don’t know, just pointing it out b/c of the assumption that the driver would be near the curb when parking. Not the case. That’s all.
@CJLavoie
Yeah, you’re right. What was I thinking. Well, then, there’s even less reason.
@Jeber Cars here are right-hand drive.
@Jeber Drive on the left, park on the left, driver's seat is on the....right in the UK, isn't it?
