A journey through time from Troy to the Scottish Highlands to the Afterlife

Men - Gods - Myth & why women will take over the world

Erasure - The Two Ring Circus 1987

Donโ€™t know what happened to my original copy of The Circus, but I still have the companion album, complete with chewed corner when my puppy took an interest in my collection.

Not quite as slick as The Innocents, but an electronic masterpiece nonetheless.

Electric Light Orchestra - Eldorado 1974

While Glam-Rock was at its height, 12 year old me was getting lost in my first concept album.

Eldorado is a symphony; it even says it on the cover. It is a brilliant collection of songs about a character who dreams of fantasy worlds as a way of escaping his boring, ordinary life.

The album achieves that very thing, taking you on that journey with Lynneโ€™s amazingly creative music.

One of my all-time fave albums.

The Skids - Fanfare 1982

For when you donโ€™t have time to listen to all the albums.

The very best of Scottish post-punk.

Erasure - The Innocents 1988

Surely one of the best pop albums of the 80โ€™sโ€ฆ no, everโ€ฆ surely

The Jam - Sound Affects 1980

Little did we know at the time, but Wellerโ€™s progression away from 70โ€™s mod appreciation into jazz-funk was already underway.

Foxton & Buckler couldnโ€™t really play Style Council stuff, and this was the last great album with F&B up front and centre. before the horns and keyboards started taking over.

Not quite the end of the era, more the herald of a false dawn for a new Jam style.

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 1977

Is it even a record collection if it doesnโ€™t have this?

Depeche Mode - Leave In Silence (Longer) 12โ€ 1982

One of my favourite DM tracks, but I have a very bittersweet love of this song.

This was a very underrated breakup song that really hit a nerve and came out at a very dark time in my life.

It stands the test of time, much like every other track on โ€˜A Broken Frameโ€™.

Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra 1982

Not a bad track on this, and still in great condition after 42 years

Electric Light Orchestra - On The Third Day 1973

Despite some great tracks (Roll Over Beethoven, 10538 Overture, Kuiama) the first two ELO albums were heavy going, and a little grim tbh.

For me, the ELO era really started with this record. It wasnโ€™t my first ELO purchase (Eldorado in โ€˜74 has that distinction) but it began a run of fantastic albums that were, and still are, regulars on my turntable.

Simon and Garfunkel- Bridge Over Troubled Water 1970

Another musical great I had the privilege of seeing in Berlin

A great memory, sitting on the grass steps of the Waldbรผhne sipping cold beer on a warm summer night

A proper classic

Talk Talk - The Partyโ€™s Over 1982

One of the most underrated bands ever.

First heard Mark Hollisโ€™ brilliant voice belting out โ€˜Todayโ€™ through the crackles of Radio Luxembourg when I was doing an army course in Bรผnde, W. Germany.

Such a sad loss when he died in 2019.

Heaven 17 - Penthouse And Pavement 1981

When the Human League split we got two great bands out of it.

My original copy, still playing as well as ever.

Tears For Fears - The Hurting 1983

Not been on lately, but have been very busy restocking my vinyl collection.

Gonna bore you all to death every day now.

My favourite TFF album.

Never got the Oasis hype, but they werenโ€™t โ€˜myโ€™ decade
Good luck trying to get tickets Hope you get the memories live music brings
