Does anyone have any opinion or background in research in the theory of the "Simulation Hypothesis"?
I would love to know of any material that is good, yet written so a layman like myself can understand it.
My 13 1/2 year old dog crossed the rainbow bridge last week. We was in amazing shape, according to the vet had the blood work of a puppy, and we fed him nothing but high quality food an treats. Never once did he eat people food, or get into anything he shouldn't. He got a huge mass on his spleen out of nowhere.
1 week and 1 day later, my wife's cousin's 13 year old dog got the same huge mass on his spleen and crossed the ๐ ๐.
2 years ago my wife's brother's family and her sister's family had to put down their 12 year old dogs. Same issue.
My wife's aunt last year 13 yo dog, same issue.
All different diets, different treats, some had ppl food, others not. This kind of tumor is common in older dogs, but not this common. I thought nothing of it until her cousins dog went the week after.
I know as humans we try to find patterns in life to explain away crazy happenings like this, but there are way too many variables here.
Hmmmm.๐ค
I will have to look into my records.
I have not yet run into a consistent, and well augured defense of the "Simulation Hypothesis". Many that hand wave at it. Many that are reduced to teleology.
Let me rummage around in my notes. There is someone here that has proposed this as a solution to several questions in the foundations of physics. Can't remember who.
But not me.
Plato Allegory of the Cave
Zhuangzi Butterfly Dream
The Good Place even had an episode considering. One of the problems they mention is, it doesn't really matter if everything is a simulation; but acting as if it is might lead to difficulties.
As a Buddhist interested in the early Buddhist texts in pali, I avoid rabbit holes which can lead to unwholesome, unskillful mental obsessions. I suspect this idea is one. But this is a personal opinion.
@erose love that show
@J_TAPES
The whole 'any technical civilization will develop the means to simulate lives and given the time span of forever it becomes much more likely any 'sentient beings' are in a simulation than not'?
@J_TAPES If we were in a simulation, this particular script would have been rejected as being too unbelievable to hold our serious attention.

First, I'm terribly sorry for the loss of a furry family member.
Second, I've had a similar issue with cats (3 of them, 11.5 to 15) that, despite excellent care, died of cancer.
I talked to our vet about it & their answer: We've done an excellent job of learning about animals & have almost entirely eliminated all the things that used to kill them at 9-11 years... what we're seeing is just what naturally happens when they make it to 12-14 years.
No glitch, just the next research target.
Yes @J_TAPES, I would like to add my sympathy for the loss of such a beloved family member. Animal pets are so endearing because they are so giving of love and compassion.. and so loyal as well, once we get to know them.
Thanks for everyone jumping onto this, and not sure if this is the correct way to reply to all.
Reason I'm interested is if we were in a simulation, (and no I'm not paranoid), stuff is so messed up now, my thought is is the simulation bugging and are we going to see some sort of reboot?
Besides Trump, global warming, the right arming themselves.... I noticed a weird glitch, maybe. Could be a Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon, or the Agents have changed something in the Matrix.
