really stupid question, are the markets vulnerable to being influenced by computer transactions in bulk?
you know.. hacked.
@JGNWYRK the US stock market is driven by electronic transactions. Authorized automated trading system do drive the market when they generate bulk transactions in response to market conditions. The system is well protected, but in theory it would be possible to flood the US exchanges with fake transactions.

Oh boy do I have some stories for you...
Sigh. Where to start....
@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @JGNWYRK I can imagine there are some real nightmare stories out there
@buzzkill58 @JGNWYRK
Should I compile a list of resources to read, watch, listen to or just say yes. Depends on what you're working on.
@Klaatu_Veratta_Nectarine @JGNWYRK I would be curious. I am retired now. The company I worked for built a lot of private networks, but the world I came out of worked on better ways to deliver things that go boom on target.
@buzzkill58 @JGNWYRK
Well...
You could read an old article in Wired magazine about Roy Wahlberg setting up security for Merrill Lynch.

Shenanigans
Then you could read the book or listen to an interview with the author of Flashboys.
And you could listen to the podcast Best Case Worst Case
episodes 45, 46, & 47
Major Case 106 about a many years long investigation into Wall Street corruption.
After this ancient history it just gets worse.
