Today's episode of Goddammit Dad WTF Were You THINKING: mom (in the memory care home) asked for her wedding rings. So dad brought them to her. The originals, not copies. Predictably, they have gone missing.

There is not enough facepalm in the world. Dad just doesn't *think* about this sort of thing, the fact that items you bring into a dementia care facility just walk away. Not necessarily from outright theft, could be that, but more likely that either mom lost them, or another resident wandered in and took them.

So the diamond he bought her in 1967? Gone. No idea where it is. Good job, dad. /s

Sometime in the next few weeks I'll be heading over to his house to do some cleaning, sorting, etc. I will probably go through mom's jewelry and removing anything that has real value: family heirlooms, real diamonds/pearls, etc. Dad clearly has no idea of their value, both monetary and sentimental. He just isn't that kind of person, he's more pragmatic, and always does whatever mom wants.

@Impious_Jade
Oh, they were probably stolen. Never bring anything of value into a nursing home. When I worked in one, the list of temporary agency employees who were not allowed to work there again was two pages, long, three columns per page. And those were just the one who were caught.

@AlphaCentauri Yuuup. Sis & I know this hella well, don't bring anything into a home that you don't want to walk. Dad just... doesn't get it. He does whatever mom wants. Absolutely aggravating.

@Impious_Jade I'm sorry. Could she have squirreled them away? My mom did that as she was paranoid. Things showed up odd places and yes other residents took things. But I also feel badly for your Dad. I hope they show up soon. 😢
