Best snow car I ever drove. I can remember a big snowstorm hitting Seattle in the late 90s & driving across town to visit out-of-state friends while the sky was dumping 6" on the city & surrounding areas.
Having all the car's weight in the back made all the difference. It was small & maneuverable too, that probably also helped.
It was even hot in the car: in old VW Bugs, the heater pulled from the engine via heat exchanger. It was either cold AF or melt-your-face-off hot in that car - but for a snowy day, it was great. Defrosted & kept flakes off the windows just fine.
@Impious_Jade You'll never buy a better car. I'm on my 5th Subaru now. I love them. So safe. AWD. You can go most anywhere.
@Impious_Jade we have a subaru that's 7 years old, drives beautifully in all conditions, and has never in 7 years needed anything more than routine maintenance. I'll never buy anything else.
@Impious_Jade yeah, an old friend of mine would brag about taking his Subaru onto the snow, the way he handled his car made my asshole clench half the time but the outbacks handled very well.
Contrast with my Crown Vic. I, too, pucker assholes, but it’s considerably more dangerous for me as the tires I have rn drift a little too easily in even just the rain.😆
@Impious_Jade My mother told me once Portland had a big snowstorm, and the only cars besides herself (in her 1973 Jeepster Commando) on the road were Beetles.
When I lived in Colorado, I had 5-speed Nissan pick up which went everywhere. It would literally climb up on the snow. Great winter vehicle.
@LnzyHou Nice! Colorado'd definitely put a car through its snow paces!
We're tooling down I-5 at 30mph, no problems at all, no skidding or slipping & *no chains* - meanwhile, the freeway shoulders were littered with sports cars & oversized trucks & cars of ppl who thought their 4WD would help them. We made it from NE Seattle to W Seattle & back with no issues.
