@redenigma Except that the line between "politics" and "not politics" is fuzzy, porous, and illusory.
Get your NYT Games fix here while the strike is on:
@grrlscientist Goddammit, I have never been more ashamed to be male. On behalf of my fellow men, whether they like it or not, I apologize.
@th3j35t3r And Anthony Fauci. Elmo's got a bone up for him.
@sfleetucker Please do.
Not two weeks after WaPo wimps out, the NYT decides to be a dick to its tech workers.
The Tech Guild’s core demands are "just-cause protections, remote-work flexibility, and fixes to the inequitable pay structures that undercompensated the union’s nonmale, nonwhite members."
https://slate.com/technology/2024/11/new-york-times-tech-guild-strike-election-coverage-nightmare.html
The techs have set up their own game sites, so I won't be jonesing too hard for my usuals. Assuming I can concentrate on them at all with my mind picturing the Army hunting illegals like a damned SS.
@Tarnagh A country is, of course, lots of people. Some know exactly what their Führer is planning and approve; some don't know and don't want to know; some prefer to view it through a Big Moment in History lens that lets them dismiss atrocities as the regrettable price of making history; etc. ad infinitum.
The country I'm thinking of is Nazi Germany, which needed defeat, an occupation, and political cleansing to cure it of fascism. I wonder what the US will need, and who'll provide it.
@EllyOnTheGo Pizza is not about purity, ideological or otherwise. It's about improvisation and breaking the rules.
@TheBigWu At least he's honest about it. Less nauseating than the "sanctity of life" BS.
@JV3MJD @mmpadellan One of my meager comforts is the possibility that the GOP triumvirate will screw things up so badly that 2026 will be a bad year for them and and 2028 will be worse. That's assuming we even have elections those years.
@Razdawg22 May I point out that blue states are, in terms of area, red states with blue cities?
As long as the GOP is divided between MAGA and the sane, the blue states will probably stay blue, mostly. That may be the one good thing about MAGA: it divides the GOP.
But California has been red before -- it gave Ronald Reagan his start in politics, and helped him to the White House in 1980 and 1984. It could go red again. Silicon Valley is red already, and Orange County's been red forever.
@corlin Thank for posting this. I'd like to use that quote on a newsletter; can you tell me which book it's from?
ETA: Never mind, I found it.
Elizabeth Warren with the exact message I needed to hear. Posting this link as it was also shared by Jello Biafra, saying he couldn't say it any better. Anytime JB doesn't talk, you know the other person said it well! #politics
Oh snap, forgot the link to the article that provoked this:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/republican-wife-harris-vote-videos-b2639684.html
First, a wise person once told me people lie when they're scared. Before inveighing against wives lying to their husbands about voting, ask why they're scared.
Second, well-known family values spokesman and serial adulterer on his third marriage who presented divorce papers to his first wife in her hospital room Newt Gingrich should be slapped hard every time he pollutes the word "marriage" by pushing it out of his lying philandering mouth.
Look who wants to defund the police now....

@mcfate Just like Al Gore never said he invented the Internet. He took credit for co-sponsoring the legislation that funded the development of the Internet. But someone -- Rush Limbaugh? -- twisted that into "invented," and that was that. Jean Edward Smith repeats it in his otherwise good biography of FDR. Whatever the reality was, "Al Gore said he invented the Internet" is now history.
There should be a rule that Boomer Democrats just STFU two weeks before the election.
@mcfate Trump transition team member Howard Lutnick says that's not happening.
To be fair, Lutnick "said he recently spent two-and-a-half hours with Kennedy, who explained to him several theories related to vaccines that Lutnick said made sense to him." After two and a half hours with Junior, a guy might believe anything.
How charming that we have a chance to put our public health on the same footing as the Boko-Haram-controlled parts of Nigeria.
@sfleetucker Do Boomer Democrats have some weird compulsion to talk stupid right before the election? Trump's people have been trying to whistle up another "deplorables" quote for months and they finally got it.
I respect and admire Joe Biden, and I thought he had the sense to keep his mouth shut and let Kamala drive. What's he going to do next, pull James Comey out of retirement?
@Maude TBF, it sounded better in the original Pashto.
Grew up in Cupertino before Apple, lived in Berkeley, now retired in South Puget Sound. Pronouns he/him.
