When I first moved to Chattanooga in 1996, we had one area code for all of Tennessee. Shortly thereafter, we split the state with two area codes. Now, we are getting a third one just for East Tennessee.

@GaryPoole in 96 every house had a landlines. Now everyone has a phone and depending on how many people live in each house.

@GaryPoole There used to be one phone per house. With cellphones now there's usually one per person and then extras for businesses.
