I think people may be misunderstanding one of the main reasons why #Twitter was popular in the beginning and why it is losing that popularity now (a trend that started well before Elon took over).
Social media in the beginning was based on conversations between people. What made Twitter different was offering bite-sized thoughts and comments. It was interesting at the start, but over time it all became "look at me".
No conversation equals little to no interest. And that is why it is failing.
@GaryPoole In my earliest days on Twitter, the members in my area did a lot of networking, and went out of their way to help each other. We felt like we were in a special place.
COSO has that vibe right now.
@GaryPoole
And that is exactly what we are building here.
Humans having conversations with humans.
What a novel idea.
@GaryPoole This is true. And I think it’s important that you point out that the problem started well before the new owner. It’s been going downhill for a while.
@GaryPoole - Back in the day, I would explain Twitter is like chatting in slow motion. Then they screwed it up with the algorithm timeline.
@GaryPoole Yes, there's some of that. Back in the day we used to hold 'Twitterviews' with actors and supporting crew/directors etc. Had contests where we gave folks stuff for participating. It was kinda like a bridal shower gone mad. LOL
But it is also a disinformation hub now which is why I often have to put my scientist hat on over there. Muskrat is going to make that worse and I just feel leaving or cutting back is the healthier thing for me and others to do.
