@kenc313 Sadly, I had to go look it up because I remember earthquakes more for their liquefaction damage than their death toll.
@kenc313 Definitely not unheard of, but not typical and it was only a M5.9. https://ourworldindata.org/the-worlds-deadliest-earthquakes
This evening I passed a woman who was walking while I was on my run. I run every day. I only run one mile. I run all out. She finally caught up to me at the end of my run while I was on my cooldown. She said I made her feel like an old broken down car that had been lapped. Don't let anyone make you feel like that. It doesn't matter what your pace is. You're out there. You're getting it done. You're doing the best you can. Don't measure yourself with someone else's ruler. #justdoit
@Rickbflony music of the day ended up being Otyken (Siberian folk music)
@GrandmaJ I know you weren't implying that I was being whiney but I felt like I was being whiney :) On the one hand, I'm glad I get to work from home. On the other hand, working from home often makes it harder to put work down. I tell myself that at least I'm home at 7pm even if I am still sitting in front of my laptop.
@GrandmaJ I admit that I am being a little whiney. I usually get 6 months to a year off (working but not intensively on this type of project) between my big projects but that didn't happen this time and it's wearing me out. Hopefully I can take some time in the fall after this project is done before I jump into another one. The problem is we're so short staffed and we're hemorrhaging people. We've lost several engineers to other companies in the last couple of months.
@Rickbflony hmmm perhaps although that might comfort my brain into a pile of sleepy goo, which it probably needs so it can recover but there's no time for that right now. It might be a pirate metal day or perhaps a throw back to early 2000's techno / club music. I'm going to need something that keeps me moving today.
I feel like I have a work hangover from yesterday, but the submittal went into review last night and hopefully I can stay focused long enough to get the review comments addressed so it can go out the door on Wednesday. I have other things I want to focus on aside from work *sigh* work/life balance is hard. #morecoffee #brainhurts #crispay
@blodeuyn so sorry for the loss of your fur child.
@Helical_Code As you should!
@yogapaddlerun Good morning ☕
I am noise sensitive and like silence in the morning. I am surrounded by people who wake up chatty...my SO, my mother, my coworkers. Except for one coworker who also likes silence in the morning. I love her for that. If for some reason we need to communicate beyond texting before we're ready to be verbal, we share screens without voice. We don't call without first asking if we're ready for sound. I wish all of my coworkers were equally understanding. #Shhhhhhh #morecoffee
@Kurtroedeger I am jealous that you get a say in the design :) I just design what I'm told to design and try to warn the owner when it's a terrible idea. On the other hand, I am not jealous of having to deal with permitting. The worst I have to deal with on that end is railroad coordination and staying out of wetlands.
@Kurtroedeger It's a relatively small creek but large enough to warrant a bridge instead of a culvert. They'd be better off if they weren't putting the pedestrian trail located in front of the abutment wall below the flood elevation. I feel like someone in the planning stages should have said "oh hey, maybe we should try to keep the creek within the existing (stable) channel..." I wonder if I can add a toddler comparison somewhere in this report...I bet I could and no one would even notice.
@Kurtroedeger I feel this so much today. My day will be spent writing sentences that say "Even though scour is not indicated at this location and scour countermeasures are proposed for the slope in front of the wall, we have conservatively considered the 2 ft of scour associated with the 500-yr storm in our axial resistance evaluations for the soldier piles and global stability models for the retaining wall system." Two feet...not the end of the world ppl. #itwillsurvive
@GrandmaJ Thank you! It took several weeks to construct and there were several moments of anxiety, panic, and "holy cow what are we doing" disbelief...but we got it done.
@GrandmaJ two koi and one goldfish :)
@GrandmaJ the baby bunny in the green house a few weeks back was definitely one of hers.
I need more coffee
