We are having a large influx of new people and many from your area & ppl who share your interests may not be using the tags yet.
Searching isn't a learning curve but learning to navigate here is.
When you think of the # of accounts on twitter and compare our #s, well I would imagine that that may be part of it too. Our poulation here is much smaller.
The vibe I get here is that of a naighbourhood lounge. Relaxed, and convos with interesting ppl.

@girlsreallyrule Also, you can type #CoSoTips into the Search bar above the place where you type in your status, and a new column with just that hashtag's posts in it will appear. It's a good source for "how to" tips. Then you can click the little horizontal bars icon to the right of the column header and "pin" the column so it's always there. Personally I have #WordPress and #WritingCommunity pinned so on one screen I see the firehose, my friends, and two subjects of interest at all times.

@girlsreallyrule Welcome! My best tips when I started were:

1. The leftmost column on Desktop is "The firehose", an unfiltered stream of everyone on the site's posts. Scroll down a bit so it doesn't keep jumping on. you to find folks to follow.
2. Second column is "My Friends", just people you "Follow".

Follow people who post interesting things and just look at My Friends if the Firehose is too overwhelming.

The smaller community size makes this like if Twitter and Facebook had a baby.
