@impermanence42 Oh yeah, this is the first significant rain we've had in a week. I was planning to run the hoses out to get everything watered.
The fun part was, I took my 7yo to church in the Miata. Top down, blue sky, sun shining. Next thing I know, he comes up and says, "It's raining." WTF??? I had the windows down, and the top up (but not latched, to let heat out). I had to button things up.and pronto. But at least it kept things cooled off.
@NorthernInvader The punch line absolutely nailed it!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
@impermanence42 I made rolls for the church Homecoming, and brought half of them back home. That was kind of surprising, they usually go pretty quick.
No matter, Charlie (7yo) loooooves bread even more than I do, so it won't go to waste. After today's rain, the cucumbers should explode, and the tomatoes are in their August happy place, so I'll soon join you with the sandwiches.
@redenigma They might. You could get shuffled to a higher tier of support, though. Don't give up easy. :D
…and found out I had totally underestimated how many jars I needed. I was making spicy-garlic dills, and stuck either a serrano or half a jalepeño in each jar along with the spears. Some of the garlic was local, purchased from the farmers' market, some came from a jar. So we scrounged around for more jars.
We had a good shot of rain today, which meant I didn't have to drag out the hoses to water the garden.
Yesterday, the wife helped (a lot) with making some spicy garlic dill pickles. Cucumbers are crazy; they're about the size of your thumb one day, then mahoosive the next. So I had a bunch of big guys to cut up.
Unconfirmed reports are that #Ukrainian fighters have effectively broken through the Russian forces' first line of defense in multiple locations.
Russia is actively deploying their airborne reserves, both in the south and the east. Engineer structures constructed on key high grounds pose a challenge.
@impermanence42 The "Old Time Molasses Bread" recipe prompted me to reply. You can pretty much substitute any actual sugar in a bread recipe, with a 1:1 ratio. I've used cane sugar, honey, molasses, and sorghum, and they all work fine. I prefer molasses though, it gives the bread a nice tan color and makes it more flavorful. I used honey recently, when I couldn't find the molasses, and the wife thought it didn't have much flavor.
@Museek First day of school on Planet Georgia, so it was pretty quiet. Wife suggested we get lunch, just the two of us, and that was pretty nice. I even managed to keep the phone in my pocket the entire time minus 30 seconds when I looked up something she asked about.
@catlynne333 The dimwit can't help himself. He's going to get tossed in the slammer long before the opening arguments get under way.
@SmirkingRaven I hope you'll be OK. This guy who helps the wife out on the family farm got the ro last week, and it really knocked him (and his wife) down. Sounds like you've got asthma, though, and that definitely doesn't help. I hope you'll get better and fast!

The "big garden" is mostly a bust this year. It's just too far away from the manor to give it the attention it needs. But I still have a few peppers holding on, so I took the scythe and some fertilizer down this evening. After scything down the grass around the plants, I noticed one of the Tabasco plants had a small stem blown off in the recent storm; it had six yellowish peppers. Of course, I had to try one. Wooooooo, I'm not looking forward to tomorrow.
